Where you set your expectations in life makes a massive difference to how you experience the world in general, and this is especially true when it comes to God. If you have wrong expectations of God you will have a very bewildering and potentially discouraging experience of what it means to be a Christian.
When your false expectations of God aren’t met it’s easy to come to the conclusion that Christianity doesn’t work. The truth, however, is that most times, our loss of confidence is in a God who actually really wasn’t the God who reveals himself in the Bible in the first place.
In this series, we are hoping to help instill confidence in the God of the Bible by walking through Romans chapters 5-8, seeing how Paul teaches us the great reason Jesus gives us for having great confidence in God. Your confidence in God is going to swell, because your expectations of God are going to be rightly set and your experience of God is going to match up to those expectations.
In this sermon’s text, we are introduced to a lot of the themes that will follow in the weeks to come. Our question in this talk is “How do we have realistic expectations of God?”
