Inside The Lion's Den

The Gospel according to Daniel

February 19, 2017

Bible Text: Daniel 6:1-28 |

Series:

This is the sixth and final sermon in our series entitled Inside the Lion's Den. We've been looking at what it means to live faithfully as a Christian in a world that doesn't seem to follow God's agenda.

Daniel 6 brings up many of the same themes we have encountered in the preceding chapters. Daniel has taught us how, on occasion, to draw lines and oppose the culture on the basis of our faith convictions. It has taught us when to embrace the culture and all that is good in the culture around us. It has taught us how to cope when big powerful forces above us push us down and threaten to squash us. It has taught us, most of all, that if you are God's child, he will be with you through this entire ordeal.

In this talk we see how Daniel 6 teaches us the simple Gospel of Jesus Christ, because at the heart of all we have covered so far in this series is the truth that God rescues.

Revealer & Ruler

January 22, 2017

Bible Text: Daniel 2:1-49 |

Series:

In this talk we tackle Daniel chapter 2. This is the second installment of our six-week study in the book of Daniel.

Part of Daniel's value for us is the insight it gives for life in a world that doesn't seem to follow God's agenda. Chapter 1 began to address the question of how you follow God in adverse circumstances. Chapter 2 goes further back and addresses the question behind that - is it even worth following God at all?

This week we consider Daniel's presentation of God as revealer and ruler as we engage with that question in the light of the text.

Drawing Lines

January 15, 2017

Bible Text: Daniel 1:1-21 |

Series:

This sermon takes a look at Daniel chapter 1 and is the first of a six-part series in the book of Daniel.

We've entitled this series Inside The Lion's Den with reference to what is probably the most well-known story in the book as we hear the story of Daniel again and hear what it teaches us about living in an environment where Christian values and norms are not the values and norms of the surrounding culture.

Daniel chapter 1 sets the scene and shows us that there are three things we need to know if we want to live well for God in our own context. We need to know where we live, how to live where we live, and why we live how we live where we live.
