Bible Text: Philippians 3:10-14 |

If we're honest, growing in our obedience to God's word is hard work. Numerous factors can discourage us in our pursuit of godliness. In Philippians 3 the apostle Paul urges us to press on and gives us an insight into how he himself presses on in the faith. Listen in as we explore this subject together.

Parents and Children

Sermon Series - The household of God

September 16, 2018

Bible Text: Ephesians 6:1-4 |

In Ephesians 6:1-4, Paul continues to explore how the Gospel impacts upon and transforms our family and household relationships. In these verses he speaks to children and parents, showing us how a Christian understanding of obedience includes a heart dimension that broadens its definition to something much bigger than mere compliance, and how parental authority is ultimately meant to serve our children's growth in their understanding and experience of the Gospel.

The True and Greater Israel

Ancient Grace - sermon series

March 18, 2018

Bible Text: Luke 4:1-13 |

This sermon is the fifth in our series Ancient Grace.

Where does the story of Jesus start in the Bible? How you answer that question is going to shape the way you read and understand most of your Bible, particularly the Old Testament. The contention of this sermon series, Ancient Grace, is that the whole Bible, even the Old Testament is actually all about Jesus - about God's grace to us in sending us a Saviour to save us from our sin.

In this sermon we consider Jesus' temptation in the wilderness in Luke chapter 4. Cast against the backdrop of Israel's wilderness wanderings in Deuteronomy, and knowing how they fared in their testings there, the obvious question is how will Jesus respond? As we reflect on the tests he faced and the resistance that he offers, we find our answer to the question "Is he really the true and greater Israel?"

The Good Samaritan

March 12, 2017

Bible Text: Luke 10:25-37 |

In this sermon we take a look at Jesus's interaction with an expert in the Old Testmant Law and his recounting of the parable of the good Samaritan. We realise anew what it means to love God and love our neighbour, and where we find the motivation and power to be able to do so.

About the sermon series:

In Luke 9:51, after spending 9 chapters telling us who Jesus is, Luke, the author, tells us this one very important detail: “As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.” Just earlier in that same chapter the lights went on for the disciples and they began, imperfectly, to realise that Jesus was the Messiah, God’s king sent to redeem his people. Following that revelation Jesus takes them even further in their understanding of himself and his mission, and he tells them that he’s going to be handed over to the authorities and die at their hand. In fulfillment of that prediction he resolutely heads to Jerusalem to face his death.

Revealer & Ruler

January 22, 2017

Bible Text: Daniel 2:1-49 |

In this talk we tackle Daniel chapter 2. This is the second installment of our six-week study in the book of Daniel.

Part of Daniel's value for us is the insight it gives for life in a world that doesn't seem to follow God's agenda. Chapter 1 began to address the question of how you follow God in adverse circumstances. Chapter 2 goes further back and addresses the question behind that - is it even worth following God at all?

This week we consider Daniel's presentation of God as revealer and ruler as we engage with that question in the light of the text.
