In the second and third chapters of the intriguing Book of Revelation we get a unique insight into the thoughts of Jesus, regarding his church on earth. We see, up close and personal, what he thinks about 7 historical churches in first century Asia Minor (Modern day Turkey).
The number 7 is extremely symbolic in Revelation, signifying completeness and wholeness, and so we’re pushed to see these 7 churches as not merely 7 historical churches but also as representative of the church in all ages and places. That means it tells us about the church in Cape Town as much as it does about the church in the ancient Mediterranean. By looking at the 7 churches we get to look at ourselves through the eyes of Jesus. It’s a penetrating journey, one that both bruises and heals.
Join us over the next 7 weeks on that journey, as we let Jesus examine us and point us to his ultimate victory and the hope of the New Creation.
